Can I go to the DMV in Florida without an appointment? ›

The Division of Motorist Services has driver license service centers located throughout the state. Depending on your location the office may offer services on a walk-in or appointment only basis. Visit our Locations page for addresses, telephone numbers and hours of operation.

To make an appointment, go to flhsmv.gov and click on the Locations tab. What should I do if I need to make an appointment for an original license or credential? Individuals who have never been licensed in Florida or with temporary legal presence will need to make an appointment to come into the office.

Online/Classroom setting –

Any applicant under the age of 18 can take the Class E Knowledge Exam online. There are approved third party administrators that provide this service. NOTE: A Parent Proctoring Form is required for online tests, and must be notarized or signed in the presence of a driver license examiner.

Applications for driver's licenses/ID cards must be made in person at any local office offering driver licenses services. When applying for a driver license, you will be given a vision test, however you may be eligible to receive a license without taking a written or road test.

Due to the Real ID Act, the State of Florida has new documentation requirements. In order to obtain, renew or replace a Florida identification card, you must present original documents that prove your legal name, lawful presence, social security number and two forms of residential address.

To replace online, you will need the address on your license, your date of birth, social security number, and the number from one of the following: Florida Driver's License or ID Card, License Plate, Title, Documented Vessel, or Vessel FL. Your new card will be mailed in approximately 7 - 10 business days.
